A story of this world and the next. Of how far we’d go for the people we love and what happens when we come back empty handed. From the depths of the underworld to the tops of the highest mountains, Orpheus is an epic tale of gods and challenges and love reimagined for the modern day.
From the back rooms of pubs to terraced houses and cab journeys, Alexander Wright and Phil Grainger transform this ancient myth into a modern day epic about people, our relationships and what we’ll do to try and stay together.
Told through a fusion of hair-raising spoken word and original, live, soulful music, ORPHEUS sits in between spoken word poetry, an acoustic gig and a theatre show. ORPHEUS was created to play anywhere and everywhere. The show premiered in the garden of a Dutch cheese shop in Cromarty. Since then it’s played in houses, pubs, halls, shops, tunnels, libraries, foyers, bars, empty lofts and – very occasionally – a theatre. ORPHEUS won Best Theatre (weekly) award at the Adelaide Fringe and the Summerhall Award at VAULT Festival.
‘Orpheus is a hymn to love wrapped in a beautiful, magical, heart-pounding piece of high- stakes theatre.’ YORK PRESS
