Moore Arts: Millom was established to promote and advance involvement, participation and access to the performing arts and associated art forms, especially for young people, in the North West of England but primarily in Cumbria and in particular, Millom and it’s surrounding areas.

Jakki Moore is the founder and Artistic Director of the company and will continue to work with young people to build on accessing the arts for this area. The company aims to present, promote, organise, provide, manage, produce and participate in plays, performances, dramas, films, broadcasts, musical pieces, concerts, entertainments, festivals and exhibitions. We also aspire to promote, organise, provide, manage and produce workshops, classes, events and other activities that provide the opportunity for the involvement of young people and disadvantaged groups in artistic activities.

Theatre Director: Jakki Moore  – Central  School of Speech and Drama  BA (Hons) in Drama and Education Class 2:1

Jakki is Millom born and bred.  Being a member of MAOS from the age of 11 yrs, Jakki decided to pursue a career in theatre and performing arts at the age of 19 and left for Cumbria College of Art and Design to be one of the first students to study on the first BTeC National Diploma in Performing Arts.  With trips to Corfu as a Holiday Rep under her belt, in between studies, Jakki returned to the UK and completed a Degree at the renowned Central School of Speech and Drama 1994-1997 as a mature Student!

Enjoying all aspects of theatre, devising, writing, stage management and in particular performing, Jakki left with a strong qualification under her belt and some professional experience from BBC’s The Lakes.  Edinburgh Comedy Festival called prior to her first professional tour of theatre in the South of UK.  With a strong C.V. Jakki’s thoughts of 8 hour shifts Front of House at a venue at the festival were not to be, 17 hour days, 7 days a week were full of exciting new experiences Managing the Studio of the Gilded Balloon!  A fantastic season, meeting and working with many wonderful comedy figures led to another 10 yrs working at the Festival with various companies and big comedy names such as Johnny Vegas (National Tour Manager 1998), Ed Byrne, Jason Byrne, Tommy Tiernan, Mighty Boosh, Catherine Tate…to name only a few!  Also working in London and Manchester with Comedy Management such as Dawn Sedgwick, Karushi and Big Eye, Jakki enjoyed fabulous times working on tour, in house, at the festivals, in tv and production.  She also worked with ARC theatre in Essex, to begin a youth theatre and write  community theatre.

Since her travels, Jakki found herself returning to her hometown with her son, Jay, then 3 yrs old and working in various schools, writing ‘Between You and Me’ with Millom School and touring it to Montreal, Canada.  Voicing and being the face of more than one Film about Millom.  Starting up a Youth Theatre with the teenagers of Millom in 2005, Jakki founded Moore Arts: Millom (2007) which quickly grew into what we have today.. 16 weekly youth theatre exploring Dance, Drama, Technical, Drumming and Arts Awards…

The Beggar’s Theatre was opened in 2009 and has developed into a great successful Theatre and Comedy venue in the North West.

Jakki runs the youth theatres and tech crew, co-ordinates the other theatre, dance and drumming groups and continues to write most of the theatre presented by the young people of Moore Arts.  Jakki also continues to work in schools and is now programming comedy and theatre at Threlkeld Village Hall near Keswick.  Jakki Moore Management looks like it is on it’s way to return too!!  Hoping the young people of the Youth Theatre can take advantage of work in TV and theatre…… watch this space!
